Six Uses for Drones

Drones have made their way into the popular vernacular appearing in the media on a near daily basis. Many of us think of drone strikes when we hear the term but the reality is that they come in all shapes and sizes as well as uses.

Amazon has proposed the idea of using drones to deliver goods while others have ideas more geared toward the common good. Below are six ideas for using drones.

Photography
From surveillance to monitoring to policing, drones could be used to photograph marches, neighborhoods, crime scenes, people of interest and other targets.

First Responders
Hospitals and ambulance services can send needed resources to disaster areas, accidents and other emergencies for first aid needs. Along with instructions and gear drones could be the very first on the scene.

Delivery
As noted above, Amazon has proposed the use of drones to deliver good to customers but they surely won’t be the only player using drones. Google recently bought a drone manufacturer to deliver internet to hard to reach places. I can imagine everything from pizza delivery to emergency aid for drones in the not to distant future.

Disaster Recovery
We’ll soon deploy drones to disaster areas to detect humans using thermal imaging, downed power lines and waterline breaks. Drones will also be able to map disaster areas for first responders to better navigate.

Construction
Specialized drones will deliver materials to building sites as well as in the actual construction. Stronger and sturdier drones will be able to lift materials as high as a building is tall.

Mapping
There’s much left to map in the world beyond roadways and topography. There’s also a need for specialized mapping like forest coverage, agriculture, deforestation, fishing and so on. Drones can map on an ongoing basis with little input from human controllers.

Whatever the use we’ll soon be seeing drones on a regular basis in our daily lives. We’ve only begun to imagine what creative uses people will develop for drones.
